GrayKey becomes a paperweight thanks to Apple's efforts — 2022

Surely all of you will remember the famous magic box called GrayKey . This tool is (or was) capable of unlocking any iPhone with little effort. Its creators found a very powerful weapon for the security forces and bodies, but Apple has managed (for now) to disable this tool, at least on devices with iOS 12.

The security methods that are implanted in the devices (any) are not implacable, but it is possible to put barriers to increase access time to a device until it has been compromised.

Apple made some security updates to iOS that helped make things difficult for GrayKey, but they have reached a point where the famous magic box is currently only capable of extract a minimum part of the files of a terminal and some metadata, as long as they are not encrypted. That is, a currently unusable device.

A police officer confirms GrayKey's current uselessness for work at Apple

This tool is, was and will be a very sweet toy for security forces who want quick access to suspects' terminals to extract information that could be relevant. Although it could also be used for other purposes that would put our security at risk if it falls into the wrong hands.

Our iPhone is already part of us, we have a quantity of data, files, photographs, videos, positioning records... all of this in a device that accompanies us every day, that knows practically everything we do , who we are with, where we have gone, what we have bought... It is a double-edged sword, hence the importance of Apple's work to to block access to this magic box.

what iOS 12 had obstructed the usual procedure for GrayKey could work normally, that is, unlock an iPhone to be able to extract information from it.
