Google Photos limits the storage of certain video formats — 2022

Google Photos was and still is a very useful alternative for store all our photographs securely to be able to have them available on all new devices regardless of whether it is Android or iOS and so on,save storage space on ipad, iPhone or any device. One of the benefits of this service is that enjoyed unlimited space without sacrificing our storage in Google Drive, but this has changed drastically after an update of the storage conditions of this Google service.

Google Photos bans certain video formats from unlimited storage

In a recent update of the unlimited storage conditions of Google Photos it has appeared that certain video formats will have a cloud storage limitation , something that has caught our attention and that has raised a lot of tension among users who take advantage of Google's unlimited space so as not to delete any photo.

Google Photos

This new condition will affect videos of specific formats. these videos they will occupy the storage of our Google Drive subscription if you do not comply with the conditions that Google has marked in the update of its conditions of use.

It is important to note that the videos affected by this measure will be those uploaded after December 6, as our colleagues at ADSLZone . That is why we will not have to worry about all the videos that we already have stored in the cloud. Now, as of December 6, you should know that only the following video formats will be supported:

.mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, y .mkv.

As you can see, there is a wide range of supported formats but we see that some quite important ones are missing, such as .vob or .raw. If we have to store a video in this type of format, we can do it but always using the space in our cloud that we have at that time.

Other videos and photos will continue to be stored in the cloud unlimited always at one resolution of 1080 or 16 megapixels in the case of photographs

Google has enabled a new menu to be able to check if we have any video that does not meet these unlimited storage requirements. To see it we simply have to go to Menu > Settings > Videos not supported.

In this new section you will see a list with all the videos that are not accepted under Google's conditions, giving you the possibility to delete them and download them in order to keep them.

Leave us in the comment box what you think of this new limitation of Google in its storage.
