Scan documents on iOS natively, without third-party apps — 2022
We already live in the post-paper era and it is that more and more often we see how in the business, student and even institutional sector paper documents are being eliminated by electronic documents. That's why not only is it useful to have devices like an iPhone to deal with these documents, but you also need tools to scan documents that are still on paper. That is why in this article we show you how to scan documents on iPhone without third-party apps, all natively.
Document scanner on iPhone from Files
Although there are applications in the iOS App Store that do the task of scanning documents very well and also offer additional tools, the truth is that it is not even necessary to have them to be able to process a physical paper document into a digital document. For this, it is enough that the camera, which is what will be used for it. However, that is not the app that is used, since you must resort to others such as the Files app which is already installed as standard on our device.
If you have never used this application, you should know that, in summary, it is precisely a file manager in which we can create folders in which to store any type of document. These files can be saved in the memory of the phone itself if you include them within On my iPhone or in the Apple cloud if you go to iCloud Drive. You will also have access from here to other cloud storage managers such as Google Drive or Dropbox. To scan a document you will have to choose one of these folders to save it there, even if you later move it to another folder or even delete it.
Once you are in the right place, you must follow these steps:
- Tap on a blank part of the Files app to bring up a small dialog.
- Click Scan Documents. You may need to click the right arrow if you don't see this option.
- You will see that the camera has been opened. Frame the document to be scanned well and press the lower center button.
- Use the screen markers to adjust the size of the scanned document.
- Click on Keep.
- Re-scan the next page of the document if there is one, otherwise click Save.
It should be noted that if you click on each scanned sheet you can adjust the white color of the document or cut out the part that does not interest you. Once you have saved the document, it will appear with the name Scanned Document, which you can modify by clicking on it. You can also move it to another folder as indicated above, in addition to being able to share it through a multitude of apps that you have installed.
iPhone Notes also scans documents
The also native iPhone Notes application has improved considerably in the latest versions of iOS and has added remarkable features such as the one we are discussing in this post about scanning documents. To do this you must follow the following steps:
- Open the Notes app on your iPhone.
- Create a new note and once inside it click on the '+' symbol.
- Select 'Scan Documents'.
- Now take the photo and adjust the different color parameters, document size, etc.
- Click on 'Keep scanned file' at the bottom left.
- Now click on 'Save' at the bottom left if you do not want to scan more documents and if you do not repeat the process.
Once you have added the scanned document or documents to the note, you can also share them through a multitude of native or third-party applications such as Messages, email, WhatsApp and even upload it to a cloud storage service.
How to print the scanned documents
Once the document has been scanned and saved in Files or Notes, you can send it via Wi-Fi to a printer. To do this you must open the document, click on the share button at the bottom left and look for the option to print. Once you have chosen the destination printer you will have the possibility to choose the pages to print, the number of copies, if you want them in color or black and white, as well as if you want them to be double-sided or not.
Create a PDF after scanning the document
Natively you should know that scanned documents convert to PDF automatically, so you don't have to do anything. In any case, you can export it to PDF reading and editing applications such as Adobe Acrobat, PDF Expert and many other applications for this that exist in the App Store.
