Delete programs in macOS completely — 2022
Uninstalling applications in macOS can be a familiar task for everyone, but not so much the way to make sure that there is no trace of them. To completely delete applications from a Mac, something else is required, as we are going to show you in this post. The process is really simple and fast, at the same time that we give total confidence to the external program that is needed.
Important facts about uninstalling apps
Before proceeding to remove any application, we believe it is convenient for you to know some important aspects about this process. And it is that in addition to knowing what this process entails, you should also know what the risks that the complete or partial elimination of an application from the Mac could entail.
not all can be erased
Regardless of the method used, there are certain native applications that are already installed on the Mac and that cannot be deleted in any way. Either because they are essential for the system to function normally or for Apple's business reasons and its desire to encourage the use of said application or program. Examples of this are Calendar, Calculator, Contacts or Photos.
Although it is true that you can find software capable of eliminating them on the internet, these may not be effective and, even when they are, they could put the operation of the Mac at risk. Therefore, you must bear in mind that you will always have certain apps indelible and we recommend that you do not try to eliminate them in any way. In the end, if you don't use them, they won't bother you or take up significant space on your disk's memory.
The traditional method might not work
In this same post we are going to show you two ways to remove programs from the Mac. The first one is the classic or traditional method, which does not require the use of third-party apps and everything is done from the Finder itself. On the other hand, we are also going to explain how to do a complete deletion of these. Well, the first of the methods may not be the most effective and that is why the second is needed.
The Mac's way of understanding the uninstallation of programs does not imply the elimination of certain folders and files related to it, so it will always keep a small copy of it in case we want to install it in the future. With a few programs nothing happens, but if there are a large number of uninstalled apps, the accumulation of this type of files can be a problem.
Risks of removing a program
Removing an application from the Mac, whether completely or not, always entails certain risks that we have already mentioned in previous sections. And, although this is not always completely the case, on most occasions when a program is deleted, access to the documents created from it is also being deleted. This implies that, despite the fact that you reinstall it, you have to recreate them all.
Now, to reassure you, we must tell you that if you follow the correct guidelines you will not have major problems such as the system crashing, crashing or losing access to part of the computer. As long as, we insist again, do not remove programs that cannot be removed naturally and that are provided by Apple itself. If you do it with them, you could have problems, as we already told you in a previous point.
Steps to remove programs
Now yes, we proceed to tell you how to uninstall applications in macOS both natively and completely and safely. In addition to telling you what you should do after that so that there is no residual file left on the computer that may be consuming storage space.
Classic Erase (from Finder)
The native way, considered the natural and best known way to remove a program or application in macOS is as follows:
- Open the Applications folder (there is usually a shortcut in the left Finder bar).
- Select the app you want to delete.
- Drag this app to the trash.
- Confirm that you want to remove the app.
- Now empty the trash if you want to remove that trace as well.
Complete uninstall (with third-party apps)
Since the above method will not guarantee the complete removal of apps and in some cases will even prevent you from doing so, there is a complete and safe way to do it using third-party apps. In the Mac App Store and on the Internet there are numerous programs that guarantee this process, so there is not just one alternative, but many.
The best known is AppCleaner , which has a tremendously simple operation and is effective, in addition to the fact that the installation of this takes only a few seconds. That is why we are going to tell you how it is done through it, although in the end the procedure is similar to what can be done in other apps like the ones that we will show you later.
The steps to follow are those:
- Download AppCleaner from the browser. You can do it from developer website .
- Install the app and open it.
- Now open the Applications folder and select the one you want to remove from your Mac.
- Drag the app onto the AppCleaner window.
- Check all the boxes that appear in AppCleaner if you want to remove any traces of the app.
- Once the above is done, click on Delete.
As you have seen, the process is really simple. Although we insist that AppCleaner is not the only application for macOS that allows us to carry out this process, but since it is a safe application that we have been using for a long time, we believe that it is one of the most appropriate. In addition, its interface is very intuitive and it also comes without advertising, which is something to keep in mind as it is a free program. The following applications, although they have a different interface, could also serve this purpose.Descargar QR-Code Cleaner-App Developer: Nectons Descargar QR-Code Delete Apps: Uninstaller Developer: FIPLAB Ltd Descargar QR-Code Uninstaller Master Developer: Yan Li Descargar QR-Code Uninstaller 2 Developer: FMX CO., LTD.
It should be noted that there are other multipurpose programs specialized in eliminating junk files (see CleanMyMac or OnyX) whose functions include completely eliminating programs in an identical way to the previous ones. Therefore, if you already have one of these, you won't need to install anything else, since they should be enough to carry out this process.
Further steps to remove junk files
The process is not really over if you want to remove all traces of the applications, as you would have to safely empty the trash. For this we recommend that you place the cursor on the icon of this and while holding down the alt/option key, right-click and select Empty Trash. This is the safe way to also delete any type of file that we have deleted from the trash.
If before knowing the method that we have just shown you to delete applications from the Mac you did it the 'classic' way, don't worry. This should not cause any security problem on your Mac or its malfunction, however, it can happen. to occupy certain memory space for having stored the calls junk files. These are generally maintained despite deleting the application in case we reinstall it in the future and we would like to have certain data and settings from the previous installation. But thanks to applications like AppCleaner there will be no more leftovers.
